The Back Bay

This is one of the affluent areas of Boston. A former marshland, it was reclaimed from the river, a major development project at the time. As you can see from the pictures, it is quite old (by new world standards) and many of the apartment buildings date back to the 18th Century. Most of the buildings are well kept and have been modernized inside while keeping the original look outside. Brick and stone can bee seen everywhere, including the sidewalks. The distinctive blue glass skyscraper is the John Hancock Tower. At its top there is an observation deck and museum dedicated to the Independence.

The Furniture Store

Last Friday night I met my old friends Willy (left) and Charlie (aka "Carlitos", aka "The Asshole" ;-) We had not seen each other in years, but it felt like it had only been a few weeks.

We went to see the "Watchmen"... at a furniture store. The place has two IMAX theatres, a water -light show, attractions for children, resturants, ice-cream parlor, etc. It's a furniture store. Yes, it is weird, but a lot of things are a bit strange here, in the great Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Revere Beach

One of Boston's most ill-reputed neighborhoods, this was my home for over three years. Sure wasn't pretty, but it was close to the subway and the airport, and within waking distance of the ocean. It has a great sidewalk where I used to walk or bike while breathing in the ocean breeze, and a wide sandy beach. We used to have some great "brew-fests" at my place there with my old roomate Steve -biochemist and brewmaster extraordinaire- and the old gang. OK, so what if you heard a gun shot now and then in the middle of the night? Small price to pay... :-)

Peter's Super Beef

Located in my old neighborhood of Revere, MA, this is my favorite place in the world for cheese stake sandwiches... seen here are the "small" fries and sandwich -and they give you your own ketchup container -as it should be ;-) Nothing like real food...

More Harvard Square

In the heart of Cambridge, accross the Charles River from Boston.

Harvard Square

All that we can leave behind

While leaving Seattle seemed like the only thing I wanted to do and I hardly felt anything during the short weeks before my departure, it did hit me after I got on the plane for the rest of the day, and is only now starting to fade. Unrealized possibilities left behind seemed like a non-issue. Or were they...? All that remains now, is to look forward. But can a single thread of the past have a place in the fabric of the future? And do I want to pursue it?

I think I do, maybe.
