The Back Bay

This is one of the affluent areas of Boston. A former marshland, it was reclaimed from the river, a major development project at the time. As you can see from the pictures, it is quite old (by new world standards) and many of the apartment buildings date back to the 18th Century. Most of the buildings are well kept and have been modernized inside while keeping the original look outside. Brick and stone can bee seen everywhere, including the sidewalks. The distinctive blue glass skyscraper is the John Hancock Tower. At its top there is an observation deck and museum dedicated to the Independence.
